Local initiatives provide school supplies in Niger and Senegal
Local authorities and private donors in Niger and Senegal have launched initiatives to provide school supplies to students to alleviate financial burdens on families during the new school year.
In Timia, Niger, businessman Ismaghil Ahmijira, director of SCORE INVEST/BILLATOr, donated over 6 million FCFA worth of textbooks and school supplies to the local education inspection. The donation is intended for all schools within the commune. This follows previous contributions from the company in the health and education sectors, including the provision of medical supplies and the support of teaching and health staff.
In Notto Diobass, Senegal, Mayor Alioune Sarr has allocated 23 million FCFA for school kits, including books, notebooks, and teaching materials. The municipal council's initiative aims to ensure that financial constraints or rural residency do not hinder a child's education. The mayor reported recent academic success rates in the commune, including 82.4% at the CFEE and 86% at the BFEM, while setting a goal to exceed 90% in future results.
