Local issues and violence against women reported in Turkey

In Diyarbakır, the DEM Party Women's Assembly held a press conference in the Bağlar district to address the rising number of femicides. Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Serra Bucak reported that four women have been killed in the city within the last month. Bucak noted that the most recent victim, Ayfer Çakmak, was killed by her husband in her own neighborhood, leaving five children behind. Other victims were reportedly killed by spouses they were attempting to divorce. Bucak called for increased awareness and urged men to intervene when witnessing violence, while also emphasizing the need for local governments to strengthen policies to ensure women's safety.

In Kadınhanı, political representatives have called for more equitable municipal services. Emphasizing that local governance should not distinguish between urban centers and rural neighborhoods, officials argued that service planning must be based on the actual needs of citizens. The call stresses that rural residents deserve the same quality of infrastructure, such as roads and social areas, as those living in the district center, and that municipal investments should be distributed based on necessity rather than political preference.
