Local leaders in Cyprus and Turkey demand solutions for regional crises

In Cyprus, Hamit Bakırcı, the Mayor of Erenköy-Karpaz, has called on the central government to address long-standing regional issues. Bakırcı highlighted critical infrastructure needs, specifically the delayed Dipkarpaz-Zafer Burnu road project, which he noted impacts both residents and tourism. He advocated for a sustainable eco-tourism model to protect the area's natural landscape and suggested updating the Karpaz Decree with a modern zoning plan rather than abolishing it. Regarding municipal finances, Bakırcı stated that the administration has successfully managed heavy debts, including regularizing payments to local tradesmen and restructuring bank loans.

In Turkey, Anahtar Parti Vice Presidents Ayhan Erel and Orhan Kaya held a meeting in Aksaray to address local and national concerns. Erel criticized the ruling government, claiming that local deputies' meetings with ministers have failed to produce concrete results for the city. He specifically pointed to unresolved issues in agriculture, health, and education that have persisted for decades. A major focus was the water crisis in Aksaray, with Erel criticizing the lack of investment in the Hirfanlı Dam Project and the failure to deliver water to the region, which threatens agricultural production.
