Local Leadership Excellence Award announces 50 nominees
The International Observatory for Participatory Democracy (OIDP) has unveiled the 50 nominees for the second edition of the Local Leadership Excellence Award (PELL). The announcement was made during a press conference in Dakar by Bachir Kanouté, the Secretary General of the OIDP.
The selection process drew 618 applications from 33 countries. The final 50 nominees represent 13 countries and were chosen to recognize individuals and initiatives that advance local democracy, citizen participation, and territorial development across Africa.
Following virtual auditions scheduled for November, the winners will be announced during a grand finale at the International Forum of Participatory Democracy in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The initiative aligns with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the African Charter on Values and Principles of Decentralization, aiming to promote excellence and innovation in local governance.
