Local marathon events held and announced in Japan

The 2026 Hidaka Town Citizen Marathon was held near the Monbetsu General Citizen Sports Center under clear autumn skies. The event, organized by the town's Board of Education, featured 55 participants competing in four categories: parent-child (2km), elementary school students (2km and 3km), and a general category for junior high students and adults (5km).

In the 2km elementary school division, Kenharu Ohashi from Monbetsu Elementary School secured first place. Other winners were recognized across all age groups, with medals and certificates awarded to the top three finishers in each category.

Separately, the Kumiyama Marathon has been scheduled to take place on January 31 in Kumiyama, Kyoto Prefecture. The race will start at the Kizugawa Riverbed Sports Park, offering runners a course along the natural scenery of the Kizugawa River. Participation is limited to the first 500 applicants.
