Local planning disputes arise in Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire

In Carmarthenshire, residents and local councillors are raising objections to a proposal by Carmarthenshire Council to build 38 social rent homes on a fenced-off field behind the Carmarthen Leisure Centre in Johnstown. Local residents have cited concerns regarding increased traffic, sewer capacity, and the steepness of a proposed new entrance. Additionally, Plaid Cymru councillors have requested that all households on Llansteffan Road be formally notified of the application, citing a lack of public engagement during previous consultations. The development would include a mix of one- to four-bedroom houses and flats, potentially housing approximately 126 people.

In Pembrokeshire, the council has approved an application by Hiraeth Care Ltd to convert a property in Maenclochog into a residential care home for two children. The decision follows previous community concerns regarding antisocial behavior and young people absconding from similar facilities in the area. However, the supporting statement for the approved scheme clarified that the residents will be young people with learning disabilities or neurological differences, rather than those with emotional or behavioral disorders, noting that such conditions are often misinterpreted as behavioral problems.
