Local playgrounds in Winterswijk and Ternat undergo renovations

Local municipalities in the Netherlands and Belgium are implementing projects to revitalize community playgrounds.

In Winterswijk, the De Totempaal playground has reopened following a temporary closure due to safety concerns regarding certain equipment. While some defective items were removed, the administration is now working on a long-term plan to redesign the area into a green meeting space. This project includes natural landscaping and renovations to the onsite building, such as the installation of a new kitchen.

In Ternat, the municipality is renovating the Iepenlaan playground with a focus on inclusivity. Working with a dedicated working group, officials aim to ensure the space is accessible to children with support needs, as well as parents and grandparents with mobility requirements. The redesign will include features for older children and youth, such as a ping-pong table, and the addition of shade trees to improve the outdoor environment.
