Local political disputes arise in Wijchen and Gouda
In Wijchen, the CDA political faction has submitted written questions to the municipal executive regarding the placement of underground waste containers located opposite Wijchen Castle. Council member Karin Hoogteijling expressed concerns that the site is one of the municipality’s most recognizable landmarks, making the issue of waste being left beside the containers particularly visible to tourists and visitors.
The CDA is seeking clarification on whether this is a temporary or permanent location and has requested a review of the site's suitability during the upcoming development of the area between the castle and Wijchen’s lake.
In Gouda, the Gouda Vitaal faction is calling for a temporary halt to the clearing of children's graves at the IJsselhof cemetery. This follows reports that relatives were informed by DELA that the graves were slated for removal.
The faction has asked the municipal executive to clarify the city's role in the decision and to investigate whether parents were previously promised that these graves would be permanent. They are also questioning the communication methods used to notify bereaved parents and are requesting that no irreversible steps be taken until the legal and historical commitments to the families are clarified.
