Local political disputes emerge in Zapicán and Juliaca

In Zapicán, Uruguay, local authorities are addressing concerns regarding the transparency of seasonal labor lotteries. Councilor Ana Laura Nis reported that residents expressed insecurity regarding the process of selecting names for seasonal work. In response, the Mayor of Zapicán, Fabián Miraballes, sent a letter to the President of the Lavalleja Departmental Board, Mauro Álvarez, expressing surprise and concern regarding these allegations.

In Juliaca, Peru, Juan Zapata Chambilla, president of the Cuatro Zonas organization, has challenged the legitimacy of the upcoming election for a new leadership board. Zapata claims the electoral committee has failed to follow official statutes, including failing to present a schedule or conduct proper voter registration. He warned of potential legal action if the swearing-in of a new board proceeds on September 29 without a transparent process.
