Local political maneuvering intensifies ahead of Italian elections
Political activity is increasing in several Italian municipalities ahead of the 2027 administrative elections.
In Castellalto, Vice Mayor Domenico Saccomandi has emerged as a leading candidate to succeed Aniceto Rocci, who is not expected to seek re-election. Saccomandi is associated with the ‘Castellalto Bene Comune’ group. However, the current majority faces potential fragmentation. Other potential candidates include Marco Monticelli from the ‘Insieme per Castellalto’ group, while the center-right is considering Ilaria Di Giuliantonio for Fratelli d’Italia and Rita Ettorre for Forza Italia.
In Palma di Montechiaro, political movements are preparing for the upcoming vote as incumbent Stefano Castellino is ineligible for re-election after two terms. Current councilor Giuseppe D’Orsi has confirmed that his list, ‘Corri Palma’, will participate in the 2027 elections to continue the political direction established in 2022. D’Orsi emphasized the importance of active political engagement over criticism and highlighted the city's recent improvements in tourism and funding.
