Local political parties in Portugal review first year of mandates

In Viana do Castelo, the CDU coalition has reported a positive assessment of its first year in office. Party representatives highlighted their proximity to the population, noting the establishment of a citizen service office and a regular bulletin to summarize activities. Key concerns raised by the coalition in the Municipal Assembly include public lighting, waste collection, school conditions, and housing. In the Union of Parishes of Viana do Castelo, Cláudia Marinho noted that while planning and budgeting were established early, there have been significant complaints regarding the cleanliness of public spaces.

In Lisbon, the Socialist Party (PS) of Campolide has criticized the current administration led by the IL/PSD and CDS-PP coalition. Spokesperson Bruno Antunes alleged that the local government is “adrift” and disconnected from the needs of residents and local associations. The PS pointed to issues such as insufficient urban hygiene and cleaning, as well as a lack of effective responses to daily community needs, as signs of mismanagement during the first year of the mandate.
