Local political resignations reported in Merelbeke-Melle and Bruges
Several local political shifts have occurred in Belgium. In Merelbeke-Melle, Daisy Poriau has resigned from her position as an alderman and chair of the special committee for social services (BCSD) due to new professional challenges. She will remain active as a municipal council member for the Blauw party. David Verhaeghe will take over her duties starting in October until the end of 2027.
In Bruges, Marie Laeremans has resigned from her seat on the municipal council. Laeremans stated her decision was intended to prevent her political party, Vlaams Belang, from being further embroiled in a controversy regarding her legal domicile. While she is stepping down from the council, she maintains her residency in Bruges and has engaged legal counsel to defend her position. Tim Verbiest will succeed her in the party fraction.
