Local political shifts intensify in Kraków and Częstochowa

Political activity is intensifying in several Polish cities following recent local governance shifts. In Kraków, the mayoral race has gained momentum following the removal of Aleksander Miszalski. The first round of voting is scheduled for September 27, with a potential second round on October 11 if no candidate secures over 50 percent of the vote. Candidates such as Bartosz Bocheńczak of the Confederation and Michał Drewnicki have launched campaigns focusing on municipal spending, public transport zones, and housing accessibility.

In Częstochowa, a movement to hold a referendum to remove Mayor Krzysztof Matyjaszczyk and the City Council has gathered over 22,000 signatures, significantly exceeding the required 15,900. The National Electoral Office is currently verifying the submissions. If the threshold is met, a referendum must be scheduled within 50 days of the commissioner's decision. For the mayoral recall to succeed, at least 3/5 of the voters from the last presidential election turnout must participate.
