Regional reforestation and conservation efforts expand across Latin America

Various regional initiatives are advancing reforestation and biodiversity conservation efforts across Latin America.

In Ecuador, Innova Schools has secured 7 hectares for conservation in the Yanacocha Reserve. This effort, supported by Fundación Futuro’s NFTree program, aims to protect habitats within the UNESCO-recognized Chocó Andino de Pichincha Biosphere Reserve. The program utilizes blockchain technology to ensure transparency in environmental financing.

In Argentina, multiple local projects are underway. In San Francisco, the municipality reforested the Municipal Sports Center with 50 native trees, including species like jacarandas and algarrobos. In Necochea, the Forestación Inclusiva program is coordinating tree planting and land conditioning at local schools and scout camps. Additionally, INCUPO is organizing a native tree planting workshop in La Lola to promote soil protection and biodiversity.

In Mexico, authorities in Acapulco are continuing reforestation efforts in Papagayo Park. Following the impact of Hurricane Otis, a recent session saw the planting of 250 fruit trees with the help of students and private sector employees. The administration aims to plant a total of 2,500 trees in the park this year to restore shade and greenery.
