Local remembrance initiatives organized at cemeteries in Pelt and Eibergen
Various communities are organizing events to facilitate remembrance during the period of All Saints' and All Souls' Day.
In Pelt, Belgium, the municipality has introduced several initiatives to assist visitors at local cemeteries. A digital tool is available via viabegraafplaatsen.gemeentepelt.be to help people locate specific graves. Additionally, cemeteries feature QR codes that provide access to ‘Troostende woorden’ (Consoling Words), a series of audio fragments designed to offer comfort. From October 27 to October 30, the ‘BooD/Tschap’ activity allows visitors to fold paper boats with personal messages to place at graves or urns. Volunteers from pastoral units and local organizations will be present to offer support.
In Eibergen, Netherlands, Weeink Uitvaartzorg is hosting a ‘Lichtjesavond’ (Evening of Lights) on November 8 at the general cemetery on Haaksbergseweg. The event, running from 19:00 to 20:30, features torches, candles, music, and spoken word to create a space for reflection. Attendees are encouraged to bring flashlights and are invited to participate in conversations over coffee or tea. The event is free to the public.
