Local retail changes reported in Hünfeld and Dachau
In Hünfeld, the CDU parliamentary group is supporting a citizens' initiative to preserve local food supplies following the planned closure of a tegut supermarket at Niedertor. The closure affects not only grocery access for families and the elderly but also a local post office and neighboring shops that rely on customer foot traffic. While Edeka reportedly expressed interest in taking over the location, antitrust regulations have prevented such an acquisition. Local officials are now seeking an alternative solution to maintain the town's supply structure.
In Dachau, the city council has unanimously decided to permanently abolish shopping on Sundays during the Advent season. Despite the presence of the Christkindlmarkt and an Advent market, retail stores will no longer open on these days due to the Bavarian Shop Closing Act, which designates Totensonntag as a silent holiday. Efforts to secure an exemption from Munich were unsuccessful.
