Local Shinto shrine festivals held in Tokyo

Various local annual festivals (Reitaisai) are being held at Shinto shrines in Tokyo.

At Horikiri Tenso Shrine in Katsushika, a Bon Odori dance event was successfully held despite concerns regarding an approaching typhoon. The event featured local songs such as ‘Katsushika Ondo’ and ‘Katsushika Kouta,’ alongside modern tracks like ‘Dancing Hero.’ This marked the first occurrence of the event in six years following the COVID-19 pandemic.

In Suginami, Shimotakaido Hachiman Shrine is scheduled to host its annual festival on September 26 and 27. The festivities include portable shrine processions (mikoshi), Kagura performances, and various traditional arts such as Japanese drum (wadaiko) performances, shakuhachi flute playing, and Japanese classical dance. Special commemorative temple stamps (goshuin) are also available for visitors.
