Local students in Japan engage in community environmental and heritage preservation
In Mie Prefecture, third and fourth-grade students from Kawazoe Elementary School participated in a volunteer activity to preserve the Kumano Kodo Iseji route. Organized by the Town Children's Project Promotion Council, the students cleaned information signs near the historic Meiji-era brick Megane Bridge and replaced promotional flags to foster a sense of community responsibility and respect for cultural heritage.
In Chiba Prefecture, children from the Sakuradai After-school Daycare Center conducted environmental learning through local litter collection. After identifying issues such as cigarette butt littering, the students proposed solutions to Mayor Kasai, including better vegetation management and increased use of social media for environmental awareness. The initiative concluded with the children and the mayor jointly installing anti-littering signs to encourage cleaner neighborhoods.
