Localities in Chile and Argentina initiate water supply security projects
In Chile, a project is being developed by Aguas del Altiplano to reinforce the potable water supply for the communities of Pica and Matilla. The initiative aims to incorporate an alternative supply source to ensure service continuity during maintenance or potential failures of the current borehole. The project includes provisions to protect the 9.25 liters per second allocated to Matilla farmers, ensuring their water rights remain unaffected.
In Argentina, the Municipality of Concepción del Uruguay has announced the construction of a second, contingency water intake. This strategic project, costing approximately 1.4 billion pesos funded by municipal resources, serves as a 'Plan B' to maintain service during exceptional circumstances. The works include the refunctionalization of an alternative intake at Ex Central Caseros, involving the installation of pumping systems, submersible electric pumps, and new piping infrastructure.
