Locarno Film Festival 2026 Announces Record 103 World Premieres as Munich Think Big Youth Festival HighlightsInteractive

The 79th Locarno Film Festival will run from August 5‑15, 2026, presenting 233 films, including a record 103 world premieres and eight international premieres. From 7,759 submissions, the program features productions from 69 countries and offers awards such as the Swatch First Feature Award and the Pardo for Change, which recognises works addressing ecological, ethical and cultural issues.

The biennial Think Big festival for children and youths took place in Munich from July 9‑19, 2026. In its 11th edition the event offered dance performances, music‑theatre and workshops across multiple venues, emphasizing interactive pieces that invited audiences, including babies and primary‑school children, to engage directly with the performers. Highlights included Ceran Oran’s Rond au Carré for parents and infants and Janne Gregor’s Ich kann’s nicht lassen, featuring krump champion Queen Buckhype.
