Locarno Film Festival attracts over 150,000 spectators
The 79th Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland attracted more than 150,000 spectators, according to a preliminary report. While overall attendance remained stable, cinema visits saw a 4% increase, reaching 91,405 people.
Attendance at the Piazza Grande declined by 5%, which organizers attributed to extreme heat and stricter visitor regulations. However, this decrease was offset by the rise in cinema admissions. CEO Raphaël Brunschwig expressed satisfaction with the results, noting the festival's positive momentum.
Industry engagement also grew, with Locarno Pro exceeding 2,000 accreditations for the first time, marking a 10% increase from the previous year. Additionally, the Rotonda by la Mobiliare drew over 100,000 visitors, and the Basecamp initiative at Castello Visconteo provided increased support for emerging artists.
