Locarno Film Festival Honors Isabella Rossellini with Excellence Award

The 79th edition of the Locarno Film Festival will run from August 5‑15 2026 on the shores of Lake Maggiore in Locarno, Switzerland. On opening night, August 5, the iconic actress and filmmaker Isabella Rossellini will receive the festival’s Excellence Award on Piazza Grande, where she will also take part in a public conversation.

The festival’s program features a slate of awards for international filmmakers and artists, including a Pardo d’Onore for Darren Aronofsky and an Excellence Award for Rossellini, among many other honors. Artistic Director Giona A. Nazzaro praised Rossellini as a “visionary and incomparable performer” ahead of the ceremony.
