Locarno Film Festival Showcases Six Uruguayan Films

The Locarno Pro platform’s First Look programme will present six Uruguayan film projects at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland from 5 to 11 August. The selection, prepared with the Uruguay’s Agencia del Cine y el Audiovisual (ACAU), includes three fiction titles – *Animal Maltrato*, *Our Little Band of Justice* and *The Surubí* – and three documentaries – *The Other Side of the Net*, *Perkal* and *Spring Story* – each addressing themes such as post‑crisis survival, domestic violence, generational memory and love across borders.

An international jury composed of Ana David (Berlinale), Susana Santos Rodrigues (IndieLisboa) and Triin Tramberg (Tallinn Black Nights) will confer the Locarno Pro Awards, with winners announced at the ceremony on 9 August. The event is supported by the Swiss Federal Office of Culture and highlights the growing visibility of Uruguayan cinema on the global art‑house circuit.
