Ukraine seeks Patriot production licenses amid rising Russian missile production FAST-MOVING
Ukraine is facing a dual crisis of intensifying Russian missile strikes and a critical shortage of air defense interceptors. Recent Russian attacks on Zaporizhzhia and Kyiv have caused multiple fatalities and significant infrastructure damage. Ukrainian intelligence reports that Russia is successfully exceeding its monthly production targets for various missile types, including Ch-101, Kalibr, and Ch-35 cruise missiles, as well as Zircon and Oniks missiles.
To counter this, President Volodymyr Zelensky is pushing for licenses to manufacture Patriot PAC-3 interceptors domestically within Ukraine, aiming to secure a stable supply and reduce dependence on foreign political shifts. However, US defense contractors Lockheed Martin and Raytheon are reportedly resisting these plans. While they officially cite concerns over intellectual property and sensitive technology transfer, sources suggest a commercial motivation: fears that Ukraine could improve the Patriot system and produce it more efficiently and at a lower cost than US manufacturers.
