Lockheed Martin demonstrates AI missile defense prototype for Guam
Lockheed Martin has demonstrated an artificial intelligence-driven battle management prototype designed to coordinate air and missile defense systems for Guam. Tested at the Army Tactical Systems Integration Lab in Fort Bliss, Texas, the Guam Defense System (GDS) Battle Manager Suite prototype integrates information from multiple networks, including Aegis Guam and the Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS).
The system creates a single operational picture by fusing live data from various sensors, weapon systems, and munitions inventories. Using the CommandIQ platform, the software continuously processes hundreds of tracks and employs algorithmic shot selection to recommend the most efficient responses to incoming threats. This capability is intended to help commanders make faster decisions and preserve high-cost interceptors by selecting the optimal weapon for each specific threat.
The prototype features an open architecture, allowing it to incorporate software from other defense technology companies and accept various military orders without requiring a complete system rebuild. This development supports the U.S. military's efforts to establish a layered defense architecture in the strategically significant Western Pacific territory.
