Lockheed Martin and Pentagon reach F-35 framework agreement

The U.S. Department of Defense and Lockheed Martin have established a 10-year framework agreement to produce and sustain at least 850 F-35 Lightning II stealth fighters. The agreement aims to stabilize the defense industrial base and ensure a consistent production rate of 156 aircraft per year.

In exchange for the long-term commitment, Lockheed Martin will self-fund at least $7 billion in initiatives to support the F-35 program, including expanding capacity and improving supply chain resilience. The framework covers the production of aircraft for both the U.S. military and international customers, as well as the procurement of spare parts, modification kits, and sustainment services.

The agreement is a preliminary step and remains subject to Congressional authorization and appropriate funding. Once approved, the F-35 Joint Program Office and Lockheed Martin will finalize specific contract terms, pricing, and schedules. The initiative is expected to provide long-term pricing stability and volume discounts intended to save taxpayers money over the program's lifecycle.
