Lockheed Martin unveils integrated missile defense architecture for F-35
Lockheed Martin has announced a new integrated missile defense architecture designed to transform F-35 fighter jets into critical sensor nodes within a multi-domain defense network. This system aims to minimize the engagement time from the detection of a missile threat to its destruction.
The process begins with space-based infrared sensors detecting a launch and transmitting data to a command network. F-35 aircraft then utilize their advanced sensor suites and radar infrastructure to act as airborne tracking stations, providing real-time targeting data. This information is processed via Lockheed Martin's Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) system to create a unified operational picture.
In the final stage of the engagement chain, the processed data allows ground-based systems, such as THAAD anti-ballistic missile systems and Next Generation Interceptors (NGI), to intercept and neutralize threats. Lockheed Martin officials emphasized that this architecture is not merely an experimental concept but is built upon mature, scalable infrastructure already utilized by military forces.
