Lockheed Martin unveils PAC-3 Edge interceptor for Patriot system

Lockheed Martin has introduced the PAC-3 Edge, a new generation of interceptor missile designed to enhance the capabilities of the Patriot air defense system. Developed under the Future Interceptor program, the PAC-3 Edge aims to counter increasingly sophisticated threats, including maneuvering ballistic missiles and hypersonic weapons.

The new interceptor features a more powerful rocket motor, an updated guidance system, and improved flight control elements. While it builds upon the proven PAC-3 family, the design includes significant upgrades to range, altitude, and maneuverability compared to the current PAC-3 MSE variant. The system is expected to utilize existing launch facilities.

The U.S. Army has advanced the project to the next development phase, with initial testing anticipated in 2027 and a planned service entry by 2031. The announcement was made ahead of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) conference.
