Lockheed Martin unveils Vectis drone as Poland manages air force transition

Lockheed Martin has unveiled the Vectis, a new unmanned aircraft designed to serve as a ‘loyal wingman’ for fifth-generation fighter jets like the F-35. Developed by the company’s Skunk Works division, the Vectis is a multi-role platform capable of performing strike, reconnaissance (ISR), electronic warfare, and air-to-air missions. The aircraft features stealth technology and is expected to undergo its first flight in 2027.

In Poland, Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk has acknowledged that the nation’s aviation capabilities are currently in a transitional and difficult period. While F-35 jets are arriving in Poland, it will take several months before they are fully operational in combat duties. Additionally, the military is working to modernize its F-16 fleet and integrate FA-50 aircraft into combat readiness. Tomczyk noted that the FA-50s, which were purchased without immediate armament under the previous administration, are expected to enter service within months once the newly ordered weaponry is integrated.
