Locri finalizes second municipal beach plan

The City Council of Locri approved the definitive adoption of its second Municipal Beach Plan, completing the administrative process for the coastal area of the Reggio Calabria metropolitan region. The plan builds on the 2016 programming vision and aims to manage the shoreline with environmental sustainability, legal certainty and a diversified tourism offer. It incorporates the EU Bolkestein directive and the latest national and regional maritime regulations, providing a transparent framework for investors and operators.

The updated scheme designates 38 demarcated parcels, including 23 beach establishments for bathing and catering, four shaded sport areas (including a dog beach), five movable kiosks, three nautical concessions, one commercial concession and two spaces for social and temporary events. The plan is linked to the PNRR‑funded urban regeneration project “Città del Mare”, which receives €9 million to support the coastal redevelopment.

The mayor highlighted the political significance of the plan, reaffirming Locri’s leading role in the broader Locride area and promising a more orderly, accessible, and attractive seafront for residents and visitors.
