Locride to host ‘Luce sui Parchi’ archaeological festival

The Locride region in Calabria will host ‘Luce sui Parchi: La storia che viene dal mare’ (Light on the Parks: The history that comes from the sea) from August 24 to 30. This festival of archaeology, culture, and Mediterranean identity aims to create a replicable model for cultural and experiential tourism by connecting historical sites with local communities and the sea.

The initiative, promoted by the Calabria Regional Tourism Department and the Regional Body for Marine Parks, will integrate four key archaeological locations: the Locri Epizefiri National Archaeological Park, the Greco-Roman Theatre of Portigliola, the Casignana Roman Villa, and the archaeological park of ancient Kaulon in Monasterace.

Scheduled activities include guided tours, educational workshops, meetings with scholars and archaeologists, historical reconstructions, and demonstrations of ancient techniques. Regional Tourism Councilor Giovanni Calabrese stated that the project seeks to transform archaeological sites into living spaces and build a regional network that uses historical heritage as a driver for cultural and economic development.
