Locuto goat farmers implement artificial insemination for genetic improvement

In the Locuto community, specifically in the El Carmen annex, 25 goats have undergone artificial insemination to improve the genetic quality and productivity of local herds. This initiative aims to enhance both meat and milk production, ultimately increasing the commercial value of the livestock for local producers.

The project is a collaborative effort between PRA Buenaventura and the National Institute of Agricultural Innovation (INIA) through its PROCAP program. Prior to the procedure, 30 local breeders participated in training and awareness sessions. The selected goats underwent technical and sanitary evaluations, including ultrasounds, weighing, and veterinary checks, to ensure they met the necessary criteria for the reproductive protocol.

The insemination utilized certified Anglonubian breed semen from the El Chira Experimental Station. The first results from this reproductive process are expected in approximately 30 days.
