Lodi: Investigation launched after man dies during Carabinieri intervention

Agostino Conigliaro, a 39-year-old man, died in a Lodi hospital following an intervention by Carabinieri in the early hours of Sunday, October 11. The incident occurred in via Vittime della Violenza after residents reported a man in a state of high agitation climbing scaffolding and shouting.

During the attempt by law enforcement to contain and handcuff the man for his own safety and the safety of others, Conigliaro suffered a sudden medical emergency, suspected to be a cardiac arrest. Despite immediate resuscitation efforts by the Carabinieri and police using a defibrillator, as well as subsequent medical assistance, he passed away approximately 30 hours later.

The Prosecutor's Office of Lodi has opened an investigation into the death and ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause. Two Carabinieri officers involved in the intervention have been placed in the preliminary notation register (model 45 bis), a procedure used when a crime is potentially committed under a justification. Additionally, authorities are investigating whether there was any professional negligence on the part of the medical personnel who provided emergency care.
