Loek Hartog rescues driver from burning Ferrari in Shanghai
Dutch racing driver Loek Hartog, 23, performed a heroic rescue during a GT Championship race at the Shanghai International Circuit. After a collision left British driver Ollie Millroy trapped in a burning Ferrari, Hartog stopped his own race to intervene.
Hartog pulled his vehicle aside, broke into the wreckage, and used a fire extinguisher to combat the flames before successfully pulling Millroy from the burning car. Both drivers escaped without suffering burns, though Millroy sustained several serious injuries, including five broken ribs, a broken collarbone, a broken hand, a broken finger, and a bruised lung.
The incident has drawn criticism regarding the response of the circuit's safety crew. Reports suggest that marshals on the scene struggled to operate fire extinguishers effectively, leading to questions about the adequacy of the emergency response during the high-stakes accident.
