Lofer approves Billa supermarket relocation to former car dealership
A Billa supermarket, owned by the REWE Group, is set to relocate to a former car dealership in Lofer, Austria. The project, which involves converting approximately 800 square meters of existing space, has received unanimous support from the Lofer municipal council and official approval from the state.
Lofer Mayor Norbert Meindl noted that the move aims to resolve parking and traffic safety issues at the current Billa location. The new site is considered ideal for retail due to its proximity to the B311 federal road and direct access to bus services. Meindl dismissed plans for residential development on the site, citing excessive noise levels from the adjacent highway.
State Councilor Martin Zauner highlighted that the project prevents additional soil sealing by repurposing an existing building. Construction to convert the former dealership into the supermarket is scheduled to begin on September 1.
