Logan City Council approves flood mapping and portal updates

Logan City Council has endorsed updates to its flood portal and property reports to improve clarity and ease of use for residents. The changes focus standard maps and reports on one-in-100-year flood events, while maintaining access to information regarding rarer events up to a one-in-2000-year occurrence. Probable Maximum Flood mapping will be removed from the portal, property reports, and the planning scheme.

The council has also submitted a proposed Temporary Local Planning Instrument to the Queensland Government for approval. Once implemented, this proposal is expected to remove approximately 26,820 properties from the city’s flood planning overlay, reducing the total number of affected properties from 47,225 to 20,405. However, the number of properties classified as Localised Flood Assessment Areas is projected to increase from approximately 2,474 to 3,370.

Mayor Jon Raven stated that the revisions reflect community feedback to ensure the portal remains a simple tool with relevant information presented upfront. The planning changes and revised portal are expected to take effect in early 2027.
