Logistics and infrastructure challenges emerge in Sonora

Transport companies in Sonora are facing increased operational costs and penalties due to prolonged delays at military checkpoints. Representatives from the Union of Cargo Transporters of Sinaloa (Ultrasin) report that operators have been detained for up to six hours at checkpoints, leading to late deliveries, fines, and increased fuel consumption.

Industry groups, including Canacar and Ultrasin, held a mobilization at a toll booth on the Hermosillo-Nogales highway to protest these delays and question municipal fees applied to transporters. While some progress has been made in reducing wait times in Cucapah and Querobabi through dialogue with authorities, the sector continues to struggle with the logistical burden of these security reviews.

Simultaneously, the region is seeing a transformation in fuel infrastructure development. Due to economic growth in industrial and mining corridors, new gas station construction in areas like Hermosillo, Ciudad Obregón, and Nogales is prioritizing advanced engineering to withstand extreme desert temperatures and strict environmental regulations. These projects focus on high-precision foundations and advanced vapor containment systems to ensure durability and safety.
