Logistics and transport sectors see major shifts in acquisitions and policy
Several significant developments are impacting the logistics and transportation sectors. In the United States, President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order authorizing the use of agricultural red diesel on highways. This measure aims to reduce costs for transport companies by approximately $100 per tank during harvest seasons and includes a delay on the federal diesel tax until the end of the year.
In the corporate sector, C. H. Robinson has finalized a definitive agreement to acquire RXO for $5.8 billion. The merger is expected to create a multimodal conglomerate with an enterprise value of $25 billion, with projected cost synergies of $300 million within two years. The deal is anticipated to close in the first half of 2027.
In maritime logistics, DFDS is assuming the Algeciras-Tanger Med line previously operated by Armas Trasmediterránea. This move follows regulatory requirements from the CNMC to maintain competition in the Strait, leading DFDS to forgo the Algeciras-Ceuta route to ensure an independent operator remains present.
Additionally, the implementation of the Electronic Administrative Control Document (DeCA) marks a shift toward digital road transport, aiming to reduce paper use and improve supply chain visibility through increased data quality and traceability.
