Logistics association criticizes Austria's subsidy cuts for zero-emission vehicles

The Central Association of Freight Forwarding and Logistics (ZV) has criticized the Austrian government for reducing or stopping subsidies for emission-free commercial vehicles and necessary infrastructure. ZV President Alexander Friesz stated that the removal of the ENIN program eliminates a vital tool for the climate-friendly transformation of road freight transport.

Transitioning to zero-emission trucks involves significant costs, including the purchase of new vehicles and investments in charging and refueling systems, grid connections, storage, and intelligent load management. The association argues that these investments are difficult for many companies to manage without state support during this growth phase.

With over 45,000 heavy trucks registered in Austria and road freight handling approximately 70 percent of all goods transport, the ZV suggests using a portion of the approximately 1.8 billion EUR collected from truck tolls by ASFINAG in 2025 to co-finance the climate-friendly transition and EU funding.
