Logistics expansion announced by Mercado Libre and Belca Foodservice

Mercado Libre is preparing to establish a new logistics center in the 9 de Julio department of San Juan, Argentina. The project involves an initial warehouse located near National Route 20 and the San Juan airport to facilitate goods distribution. Local commerce officials expect the move to generate significant employment, noting that approximately 90% of staff at other company centers are local hires. The expansion is viewed alongside San Juan’s economic growth driven by mining projects, though it presents challenges for traditional local retailers.

In Costa Rica, Belca Foodservice, a brand of Grupo CIISA, has announced the construction of its first distribution center in El Coyol, Alajuela. The project involves a $30 million investment in the InnovaPark business park. Spanning approximately 14,000 square meters, the facility will feature advanced cold chain technology, including frozen, refrigerated, and dry storage. Construction is expected to take 11 months, with the center projected to be fully operational by the end of 2027.
