Logistics providers expand parcel delivery solutions in Germany and Austria

Logistics and parcel delivery services are evolving through new hardware and self-service infrastructure in Germany and Austria.

In Germany, Knobloch has introduced the KNOBOX, a mechanical parcel box designed for single and two-family homes. The system operates without electricity, software, or internet connections, utilizing a mechanical CLEVERLOCK system that allows couriers to deposit items and owners to retrieve them via key. The modular unit can hold up to 116 liters and can be integrated with mailboxes and intercom systems.

In Austria, the Post is expanding its network of 24/7 self-service stations to meet rising demand. In the Vorarlberg region, parcel volumes have increased fourfold over the last decade, rising from approximately three million in 2016 to over eleven million in 2025. One-third of residents in Vorarlberg report using these stations to redirect or collect packages. While self-service options are growing, traditional post offices and partner locations remain operational.
