Logistics providers see rise in demand for shipping flexibility

Emerging logistics companies are increasingly challenging dominant shipping providers like FedEx and UPS by offering greater flexibility and control to brands. At the Sourcing Journal’s annual Sourcing Summit in New York City, industry experts discussed how technology is transforming the supply chain.

Catherine Dummitt, vice president for marketing at last-mile delivery company Veho, noted that brands are switching to alternative providers to gain more optionality. She argued that the traditional model, which forced companies to align their e-commerce experiences with the limited capabilities of major carriers, is being replaced by a model that allows for various shipping speeds and customized tradeoffs.
