Logistics standards focus on barcode labeling and container management
Logistics and intralogistics processes rely heavily on standardized labeling and efficient container management to maintain supply chain integrity. The GS1-128 barcode has become an international standard for labeling cartons, containers, and pallets. This standard utilizes Application Identifiers (AIs) to bundle structured data, such as the Serial Shipping Container Code (SSCC), Global Trade Item Number (GTIN), and batch or expiration dates, into a single barcode.
Effective implementation requires adherence to GS1 and VDI guidelines regarding print quality, material properties, and physical placement to ensure high scan rates. Beyond physical labeling, digital solutions like COSYS container management are being used to track the movement and condition of various load carriers, including pallets, IBC containers, and roll containers. These digital tools, often incorporating web-based interfaces and AI, allow companies to monitor stock levels, document damages, and maintain a traceable history of movements between suppliers, customers, and internal departments.
