Logistics UK report details economic impact of logistics sector
A new report from trade association Logistics UK, produced in association with Capital Economics, highlights the significant role of the logistics sector in driving the UK economy. The research indicates that the sector underpins £356 billion of economic activity, supports 5.3 million jobs, and contributes £65 billion in tax revenues. Additionally, the sector enables more than £1 trillion in international trade annually.
The report finds that every £1 of economic activity directly generated by the logistics sector provides an additional £1.04 to the wider economy through supply chains and employee spending. It also suggests that a 1% increase in the logistics sector’s share of the economy could attract £30 billion in foreign investment.
Logistics UK Chief Executive Ben Fletcher urged the government to prioritize conditions that allow logistics businesses to invest and operate efficiently, describing the sector as an “enabler of prosperity across the whole economy.”
