Logitech to launch EU‑only gaming mice with replaceable batteries for 2027 rule

From February 2027 the European Union will require many portable electronic devices to have batteries that users can replace themselves. Logitech said it will meet the rule by producing two versions of its wireless gaming mice: a European model equipped with a hard‑plastic, tool‑accessible battery pack that can be swapped by the customer, and a non‑European version that retains the current soft‑pack lithium‑ion cells that are not easily replaceable. Robin Piispanen, head of Logitech’s gaming division, explained that the change is driven by regulatory compliance, safety considerations and the limited expectation that consumers will actually replace mouse batteries. The company will also sell certified spare batteries separately in Europe. The move follows a similar approach announced by Nintendo for its Switch 2 console in the EU market.
