Logius launches DigiD desktop app for Windows and macOS

The Dutch government agency Logius has launched a desktop version of the DigiD app for Windows and macOS. This update allows users to authenticate their identity directly on their computers without the mandatory use of a smartphone to scan QR codes.

Logius noted that approximately one million people in the Netherlands do not own a smartphone, a group that previously faced barriers to using the DigiD app. The new desktop application is designed to be as secure as the mobile version, functioning only on the activated computer and requiring a personal PIN for access. It also supports biometric security, such as Touch ID for Mac or Windows Hello for PC, as well as physical FIDO2 security keys.

The Windows version is available via the Microsoft Store, while the macOS version is compatible with Macs equipped with Apple Silicon (M1 or newer). This development aims to make managing government affairs—such as tax returns, pension checks, and healthcare insurance—more accessible through a single screen.
