Loh Kean Yew reaches historic Asian Games badminton final

Singaporean badminton player Loh Kean Yew has made history at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan by becoming the first Singaporean to reach the men’s singles final in the competition.

Loh secured his place in the final after a three-game semi-final victory against South Korea’s Yoo Tae-bin, winning 21-19, 19-21, 21-12. This achievement guarantees Loh at least a silver medal, marking a significant milestone for Singaporean badminton. Prior to this, Loh had already secured a historic individual bronze by defeating Indonesia’s then-world No. 1 Jonatan Christie in the quarter-finals with a score of 21-14, 21-19.

Loh is scheduled to compete for the gold medal against Thailand’s world No. 2, Kunlavut Vitidsarn.
