Loire: Two fatal quad bike accidents occur within one hour

Two fatal quad bike accidents occurred within an hour of each other on Sunday morning in the Loire department of France.

The first incident took place just before 10:00 AM in La Valla-en-Gier on chemin de Rivoire Ouest. A 50-year-old man was involved in an accident in a difficult-to-access area. Despite resuscitation efforts by Smur medical teams, the driver was pronounced dead. Due to the terrain, specialized teams were required to recover the body.

Approximately fifteen minutes later, a second accident occurred in Saint-Romain-le-Puy on chemin des Tourettes. This incident involved a collision between a quad and a car. The 51-year-old driver of the quad suffered cardiac arrest and could not be saved despite early resuscitation attempts by witnesses and emergency services. The driver of the car was treated for shock.

These two incidents bring the total number of road fatalities in the Loire to 27 for the year 2026.
