Lois Openda discusses tactical struggles during Juventus tenure

Lois Openda has addressed his difficult tenure at Juventus following his move to Lyon. In an interview with L’Equipe, the Belgian striker explained that his time in Turin was hindered by tactical mismatches, noting that the team was not accustomed to playing with a striker focused on playing in depth.

Openda also highlighted competition within the squad, mentioning that teammate Dušan Vlahović often preferred to hold onto the ball rather than playing teammates into space. During his time with Juventus, Openda recorded only two goals in 34 appearances, with only nine starts.

Despite the low output, Openda stated that the experience was not a failure, as it allowed him to work on aspects of his game that required improvement. He noted that his departure was necessary to find consistent playing time, following a €3.5 million loan move to Lyon after Juventus had originally acquired him from RB Leipzig for €45 million.
