Lokoja fire leaves teacher and seven children homeless

A residential fire in Lokoja, Kogi State, has left a school teacher and single mother, Hajia Aisha Kende Dailla, and seven children homeless. The incident occurred on Friday, August 28, 2026, at approximately 3:00 p.m. at the First 200 Units along Mallam Hassan Road.

The fire reportedly began in the ceiling following the restoration of electricity after a three-day blackout. Dailla attributed the blaze to a suspected high-voltage surge. Despite intervention from the Federal Fire Service and local residents, the three-bedroom apartment was completely destroyed.

In addition to personal belongings and clothing, the fire consumed vital documents, educational certificates, and goods acquired on credit for Dailla’s small-scale trading business. Dailla has appealed to the Kogi State Government, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and various corporate organizations and philanthropists for urgent assistance to meet basic needs such as food, clothing, and accommodation.
